“Poetry / Стихи” is a selection of poetry by Russian poet Osip Mandelstam (1891–1938), published in Neputns’ bilingual Velvet Poetry Series. It is compiled and translated by Einārs Pelšs.
In the 20th century, Mandelstam’s voice was heard by many, and for many it became a pitch to follow, including Paul Celan and Joseph Brodsky, who wrote of him: "... this nervous, high-pitched, pure voice shot through with love, terror, memory, culture, faith – a voice trembling, perhaps, like a match burning in a high wind, yet utterly inextinguishable."
