Album about Latvian artist Aleksejs Naumovs.
I have the feeling that he smiles as he paints. The added value of his art is his masterful joy in painting and the enormously bright, colourful and varied world encapsulated in the cataloguing mania of a single temperamental artist. Contemporary art has come full circle; whereas the sixties conceptualists arranged numbers, words and volumes, a major branch of today’s painting arranges impressions and places, thus balancing its local and global identity. Naumovs shows us that while the world may be big, it is not infinite. It has become approachable in all its fullness to every Western person. We need to care for the Earth so that the cultural landscape doesn’t descend into barbarism and the landscape in painting is not just about what has been lost.
