In this book, Latvian performance art has been examined from its beginnings in the 1960s up till the present day. Performance art includes a wide range of forms of artistic expression that originated from experimentation with the most diverse forms of art and culture.
Readers are presented with extensive illustrative material and descriptions of up to 30 performances, offering an insight into performance art in Latvia (the happenings and photo sessions of the 1960s, the underground experiments of the 1970s, breaking the limits in the 1980s, the Flowering of Latvian performance art in the 1990s). The book also mentions some of the particularly brilliant Latvian personalities that have performed at various periods.
The author of the book Zane Matule is a Master of Arts, graduate of the Latvian Academy of Arts. Since 2001 Matule has been engaged in performance art, not only as a researcher, but she also devises performances and organizes events at both local and international scale. As of 2008 she has been lecturing on contemporary untraditional art at the Riga International College of Economics and Business Administration
